Some decisions cannot be made in-house. A grievance against a senior leader. A whistleblowing concern that needs handling properly. A staffing structure the budget no longer supports.Buttericks provides independent advice to schools, academy trusts, colleges and universities across Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and the North of England, working with chief executives, principals, trustees, governors and senior leadership teams when an outside view is needed. The work covers investigations, difficult employment matters, restructures, and the significant people decisions boards need to be confident about, agreed as a fixed fee before anything begins.Founded by Mark Butterick, who brings more than twenty years leading HR at board level across FTSE 100 organisations, higher education and the public sector, and has advised more than 100 clients since 2012.

When education leaders call us
INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATIONS
A grievance, disciplinary or whistleblowing matter that cannot be handled internally, because it involves a senior leader, because HR is already involved, or because governors need to be sure it was done properly. A conflict check is carried out before any engagement begins.SENIOR STAFFING & EMPLOYMENT MATTERS
A capability or conduct process that has stalled, a senior position that has become untenable, or an exit that needs handling carefully and lawfully, with the options set out before anything is decided.RESTRUCTURES & ORGANISATIONAL CHANGE
Reshaping a staffing structure when the budget no longer supports it, including consultation, redundancy and negotiation with recognised unions, informed by programmes affecting several thousand employees.SUPPORT FOR GOVERNORS & TRUSTEES
An independent view before a significant people decision is taken, so a board can demonstrate it considered the matter properly and can stand behind the decision afterwards.Closely related matters, such as hearing an appeal, chairing a panel or a mediation, can be discussed on request.
